Kelechi Iheanacho Makes History With Six-Game Scoring Run at Bursaspor

Kelechi Iheanacho’s remarkable start to the Turkish 1. Lig season continued on Monday as the Super Eagles forward scored twice to help Bursaspor come from behind and beat Manisa FK 2-1.

The victory at Manisa 19 Mayıs Stadium extended Iheanacho’s scoring run to six consecutive league matches. He has now scored eight goals and provided two assists in his first six league appearances for Bursaspor, making his start in Turkey one of the standout stories of the early season.

Manisa made the better start and took the lead in the 20th minute through Cheikne Sylla. Bursaspor, however, did not have to wait long for a response.

Iheanacho levelled seven minutes later with an individual effort to bring his side back into the game. His second goal came much later and proved to be the difference between the two sides.

With the match heading towards a draw, Manisa goalkeeper Vedat Karakuş made a mistake in added time. Iheanacho took advantage and scored in the 90+2nd minute to complete Bursaspor’s comeback and secure three points for the visitors.

Six Games, Eight Goals

The latest brace means Iheanacho has now scored in every one of his six league appearances this season.

His goals have come against Bodrum FK, Iğdır FK, Karagümrük, Kayserispor, İstanbulspor and Manisa FK. That consistency has quickly established him as one of the leading scorers in the Turkish second tier.

Six league matches have produced eight goals and two assists, giving Bursaspor a forward who has contributed directly to 10 goals in the opening weeks of the campaign.

His performance against Manisa also showed why his goals have become so valuable.

Bursaspor were behind for much of the first half and needed Iheanacho to produce the equaliser before he returned in stoppage time to win the match.

Iheanacho joined Bursaspor during the summer as he looked for a new chapter in his career. The move has so far given him the kind of start that can rebuild confidence and put him back in the spotlight.

Iheanacho previously explained that Bursaspor’s long-term plans played a major role in his decision to join the club.

“When I heard about their project, that they wanted to climb up to the Super Lig and also play in Europe, I said this is a big project and it’s very good for me to come and be involved and help the team,” he said.

“So I asked my agent to make sure he does everything possible to make sure I come to Bursaspor.”

Monday’s win showed how much Bursaspor can gain from having a forward in this kind of form.
