Femi Azeez Joins Brighton for £15m as Nigeria’s Latest Premier League Arrival

Femi Azeez has completed his move from Millwall to Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal that could rise beyond £15m.

The 25-year-old Nigeria international has signed a four-year contract with Brighton, with the club holding an option to extend it by another 12 months.

The deal was completed in the final hours of the summer transfer window after both clubs submitted a deal sheet before the 11pm deadline.

The initial fee is understood to be £12.5m, with performance-related add-ons taking the total value beyond £15m. If all the conditions are met, Azeez’s transfer will become the biggest sale in Millwall’s history.

Azeez gets his Premier League move

Brighton sporting director Mike Cave said Azeez arrives after an excellent season with Millwall and described him as one of the Championship’s most exciting attacking players.

Azeez was one of the key players in Millwall’s 2025/26 campaign. He scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 37 Championship appearances. His performances earned him a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, which is selected by fellow professional players.

He left Millwall after making 77 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists.

His move to Brighton comes only two years after Millwall signed him from Reading for around £1m.

That means the Championship club could make more than 15 times what they paid for the winger if the full value of the deal is reached.

From non-League football to Brighton

Azeez has taken an unusual route to the Premier League.

He came through Watford’s academy but was released as a teenager. He then played non-League football with Northwood, Wealdstone and Hanwell Town before earning another chance in the professional game with Reading in 2019.

After making his way through the English leagues, he joined Millwall in 2024. His breakthrough came last season when his goals and assists helped Millwall reach the Championship play-offs.

Now he has moved into the Premier League.

Azeez can play on either wing but is mainly used on the right. He is left-footed and gives Brighton another option in attack as the club manages injuries and competition for places in the wide areas.

Nigeria debut came only months ago

Azeez’s rise has also been rapid at international level.

He received his first Nigeria call-up in May and made his Super Eagles debut in June against Zimbabwe. He scored both goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory before providing an assist four days later in a 3-0 win over Jamaica.

Those performances came only months before his Premier League move.

For Nigeria, Azeez now becomes another attacking option for head coach Éric Chelle as the Super Eagles prepare for their next international fixtures.

Azeez will not be the only Nigerian player at Brighton.

The club already signed teenage Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna from Swedish club AIK earlier this summer in a deal reported to be worth about £21.5m.

That makes his move more interesting from a Nigerian football perspective. Brighton are spending heavily on Nigerian talent across their teams, while Azeez arrives as a 25-year-old who has already proved himself in English football and has made a fast start to his international career.

Brighton add Azeez to a strong group of wingers

Azeez joins a Brighton squad that already has several options in the wide areas.

The club are currently without Yankuba Minteh, who is expected to remain out until October because of injury. Brighton had also rejected Liverpool bids of £50m and £60m for the Gambia international earlier in the window.

Azeez therefore gives Brighton another right-sided option while Minteh is unavailable.

His arrival also shows how quickly his career has changed. Two years ago he was playing for Millwall after rebuilding his career through the lower levels of English football. Now he is a Premier League player and a Nigeria international.

Brighton will hope his best football is still ahead of him.
